Day 7 - Perth, Australia

NOVATEK CAMERA

We have come to the last day of our Perth trip, but before we leave, we have to check out the amusement park because I simply love thrill rides too much! And so, we went to Adventure World. We got the tickets online at AUD$52.40. The photo above shows their most thrilling roller coaster ride - Abyss. We went on it twice and it is just so fun! Not suitable for the faint hearted though! Adventure World has many rides that can keep you occupied for the whole morning and afternoon. There's water slides and a swimming area as well, if you're not a fan of roller coasters.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Before checking in at the airport, we decided to check out Little Creatures at Fremantle. Little Creatures is famous for brewing Pale Ale, Bright Ale, Pilsner, Rogers and Single Batches. As my dad is a beer lover, I suggested that he should check the place out before we leave.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Besides brewery, they have a restaurant as well. We ordered Kangaroo Skewers as we have not try kangaroo meat before and it'll be my first and last time having kangaroo meat. The texture is some what similar to beef actually and the sauce goes along with the meat really well.

088After Little Creatures, we returned our car and took a taxi back to the airport. This trip has been an eye opener to me and I had never thought that I will love Australia as much as I do now. For those who haven't been to Australia, visit at least once in your lifetime, and remember to check out Rottnest Island!

Day 6 - Rockingham, Australia

NOVATEK CAMERA

Time flies and it is already the 2nd last day of our trip. Haven't kayak before but since our host, Robin, has some kayaks at her back yard, I figure that I might try kayaking around the river. Got quite a scare when I first tried to get on the kayak. Thanks to my dad who is holding on to the kayak sturdily (was afraid that I might dragged him down the water with me actually, haha!), I managed to get on to the kayak without getting myself wet.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Kayaked around the river, didn't go too far, and started feeding breads to the ducks. They are so adorable and started waddling over as fast as they can once I threw a piece of the bread into the water.

076

After a morning kayak, we went to the port near Mandurah Dolphin Cruises and board our cruise ship. Mandurah Dolphin Cruises has different type of cruise. The one we had chosen was the 1 Hr Scenic Canal Cruise - ticket at AUD$28 per person. There will be dolphin encounters (if we're lucky) and we will get to see the waterside luxury houses.

080

Indeed we are lucky because within 10 minutes of our ride, our guide told us that there's a pod of dolphins nearby. So the cruise slowed down and we admired the playful dolphins swimming around in the canal (check out the video of the trip embed below for a short dolphin encounter).

078

I always love cruising on the water as I always feel that there's something mysterious about the water below me. Not that much of a scary mystery, but more like I feel so amazed by the lives that's living in the water.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Here we are, entering into the world of the luxuries.

079

Most of them have yatchs and boats parked outside of their house. These houses are reallyyyyyyyyyy big and expensiveeeeeeeee. After the cruise, we take away fried fish from Cicerello's (not really a fan of chips) and my, the fish is really good. I would recommend you to try out Fish and Chips when you're in Perth!

Then, we drove to Rockingham, which takes about 30 minutes, to our last accommodation - Anchorage Guest House. Didn't take any photos of it unfortunately, but you can refer to the website. We booked the Self Contained Apartment and it looks exactly like the photos on the website. There's a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, 2 bedrooms and a balcony. The apartment is on the 2nd floor of the building and the 1st floor is the car park.

After checking in, we made our way to the Rockingham Wildlife Encounters Gift Shop (located on the corner of Arcadia Drive & Penguin Rd, Shoalwater), to purchase the ferry tickets to Penguin Island. It's just a short 10 minutes drive away from our rented apartment.

081

Ferry only costs AUD$14 per adult. There's different packages you can choose from. For more information, you can check it out on Penguin Island's website.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Our ride to Penguin Island. There's a number of things you can do on Penguin Island, you can visit their Discovery Centre to watch the penguins feeding, or take a tour on their glass bottom cruise to encounter dolphins, penguins and sea lions, or you can go for their Swim with Dolphins cruise, where you get to snorkel and swim (literally) with dolphins! I wanted to tried the Swim with Dolphins cruise but it was our of my budget, it's about AUD$205 per person! Well, maybe next time!

083

Kitesurfing seems to be the popular water sports in Perth. There's a number of people kitesurfing when we visited Cottesloe beach too.

084

Penguin Island is really just a small island. There's no cafes, restaurant or shops on the island. So remember to pack some food and drinks before you board the ferry. But do take your trash with you and throw it on the ferry (some has a trash bin) or when you get back to Rockingham!

After our trip to Penguin Island, we dropped by the Rockingham Shopping Centre and bought some ingredients from the supermarket to make dinner at our rented apartment.

That's all for day 6!

Day 5 - Mandurah, Australia

NOVATEK CAMERA

We're moving to Mandurah, Western Australia on day 5. After checking out in early morning from our previous accommodation - City Chic, we took off on a short road trip to Mandurah to check in to our 2nd accommodation of the trip. Again, I found the accommodation on Airbnb and is looking forward to it because according to the listing, there's a river behind the house where you can go kayak and some times dolphins might swim in!

065

After driving for about 1 hour, we arrived at our accommodation - 2 Bedrooms in Private House. Yes, we'll be staying with the owner of the house, Robin, taking two of her rooms. Robin is such a outgoing host! When we arrived, she immediately prepared coffee, tea and some cakes for us and shared a little about herself and her family. Although we only stayed there for one night, my family and Robin got along quite well. And I must tell you, the neighborhood is amazing! It's like a small town where every one know each other, just like those I've seen in U.S. dramas. It's really nice and cosy living there. Of course, the first thing I did when I reached there was to rush to the back of the house and see if there's really a river. And yes! There is (shown above)! This is the backyard. There's also some ducks waddling around and small fishes in the river.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Mandurah is famous for spotting dolphins at the river I would say. There's various locations at Mandurah where you'll be able to spot dolphins. So next we visited Dolphin Quay to have our lunch and also check out the timing for the Mandurah Dolphin Cruises.

067

Dolphin Quay is located at the Mandurah Ocean Marina, you can enjoy the sea breeze and the picturesque marina while having a cold beer or enjoying your delicious meal.

071

I had Bangers and Mash for lunch from Sharky's Fish and Chips. Delicious! Love the sauce especially.

072

After lunch, we went to get tickets for the next day's dolphin cruise at Mandurah Dolphin Cruise centre nearby. Then, we went to Silver Sands Beach and chill for a little while. I love how soft the sand feels, you can just run and roll around comfortably on the sand!

068

In the evening, we took a stroll along Murray River, the river that connects to the back of our rented house. Robin, our host, told us that some times dolphins will chase the fish to this river and that's when they have dolphins at the back of their house!

069

After night fall, I was blown away by the number of stars in the sky! I haven't seen sooo many stars for a long time. Not sure if you can see (above & below), but I tried to capture the stars with long exposure on my DSLR.

070

Isn't the sky beautiful? I just fell in love with Australia all over again while posting these photos. Sigh...

Day 4 - Rottnest Island, Australia

49

Finally its the most anticipated day of the trip - we're going to Rottnest Island! Rottnest Island is a island paradise with picturesque scenery and fine beaches. Cars are not allowed on Rottnest Island and the only transport is bicycles or the island bus. There's also over 135 species of vibrant tropical fish and 20 species of coral. And so, we're really excited for our first snorkeling experience!

50

We woke up really early and made our way to the Maylands Transperth Station to take a train to the ferry port. We have to take the train from Maylands Station to Perth Station, and interchange to Fremantle Station. The train fare is about AUD$4.20 cash and the duration is 45 minutes.

NOVATEK CAMERA

From Fremantle, we walked to the B-Shed port (it's just near E-Shed Markets) where we'll be taking the Rottnest Express. You can choose either to depart from B-Shed or Northport at Fremantle or Barrack St. at Perth, which ever that is nearer to you. It's about a 45 minutes ride to Rottnest Island from B-Shed and the ticket is AUD$75. We booked our tickets online as they are having an early bird sale, and so we got the tickets at only AUD$52.70, which is a lot more cheaper. You can also pre-book your bicycle, snorkeling gears, surf board and others equipment when you book your ferry tickets online.

051

We were wondering at first if we should go to Rottnest Island as the ferry ticket was quite expensive and out of our budget. But I'm glad that we eventually stretched our budget for Rottnest Island, as it's simply too beautiful there - I felt like I went to paradise.

052

This is the bike that we rented from Pedal & Flipper, the only Bike & Hire shop on Rottnest Island. Check out their price list on the website.

060

It's really a challenge to cycle the whole island, especially if you haven't been exercising regularly. There's up slopes and down slopes and you'll be cycling in the wilderness (as shown above). Be sure to bring a big bottle of water to prevent dehydration and packed food! There's no place for you to get water or food as you cycle further into the island.

054

The first beach we cycle to is the famous snorkeling and swimming spot, The Basin. Due to the cold weather, the water was freezinggggg colddddd. But after swimming around, our body got used to the temperature. I personally did not find The Basin that beautiful because the next beach we went to, left our jaw dropping for the whole afternoon.

053

After riding for about 5-10 minutes, we chanced upon Longreach Bay and decided to check it out. Once we got to the top of the stairs and look at what's in front of us, our jaws dropped.

NOVATEK CAMERA

My mind literally went @#$%^& because no words can describe how beautiful the water is. Well, you must know that I've never seen such a view before. In Singapore, the water is just.. dark.. It's my first time seeing the kind of image that I had normally seen on post cards or online. I.. was.. blown.. away..

056

And so, we got so excited that we immediately ran into the water and start swimming and taking photos.

NOVATEK CAMERA

The water was as clear as those in a swimming pool.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Just pure happiness being in the water.

059

Unfortunately, we did not stay very long as we still have to cycle to the other parts of the island.

061

Rottnest Island is also known for a kind of animal living on it called the Quokka. In 1696 de Vlamingh described the quokka as "a kind of rat as big as a common cat". He named the Island 'Rotte nest' (meaning 'rat's nest') and the name of the Island was eventually adapted to 'Rottnest'. It is said that Quokka looks like the happiest animal on Earth as it seems to be smiling always. One of the purpose of my trip to Rottnest Island is also to see one of this animal myself. However, this Quokka that I came across doesn't seem to be happy. Probably because I was hiding my sandwich in my bag and running away when it started chasing after my bag.

NOVATEK CAMERA

At about 4 pm, we made our way back to the ferry port to catch the last ferry back to Perth. There's actually accommodation on the island if you choose to stay overnight there. Personally, I feel that Rottnest Island is a must go place in Western Australia, if you haven't seen such fine beaches before, like me.

That's about it for day 4. We went back to our accommodation after Rottnest Island with sore muscles and sun burnt skin, and stayed indoor for the rest of the day.

Day 3 - Perth, Australia

026

It's already day 3 of our trip, made breakfast with the ingredients we bought from Coles yesterday during dinner. Cooked some scrambled eggs, ham and frozen pizza. Today we will be visiting the Caversham Wildlife Park and also the E-Shed Markets as I heard that they sell cheap souvenirs.

027a

Our OOTD for day 3!

NOVATEK CAMERA

On our way to Caversham Wildlife Park. It's about 30 minutes ride from where our rented apartment is. Seeing the scenery outside made me really delighted and excited cause I felt like we're on a road trip.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Here we are!

NOVATEK CAMERA

There's actually cafe and museum nearby Caversham Wildlife Park but we did not visit. We headed to the Visitor Centre to purchase our tickets.

Caversham Wildlife Park admission Price includes all shows, talks, animal feed and photo opportunities

Adult$25.00
Child (3 – 14 years)$11.00
Student$18.00
Aged Pension$18.00
Disabled Pension$18.00

The park is open from 9 am to 5.30 pm every day except for Christmas. Check out their website for more information! There's also different timings for the animal shows, which we did not watch, unfortunately.

NOVATEK CAMERA

We walked around and came to the Kangaroo enclosure. Once we stepped into the enclosure, we were greeted by lots and lots of kangaroo! They will roam around their enclosure and you can purchase the animal feed to feed them, or take photos with them. They're really tamed and comfortable with humans around them.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Caught sight of one of the young feeding from its mother's pouch!

038

There's a few different breed of kangaroos in the enclosure. They have the Agile Wallaby, Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby and Red Kangaroo. Not too sure if there's any other breed.

039

Here's my take on taking a selfie with a kangaroo!

040

There's soooooo many kangaroos inside. But beware where you're stepping as there's lots of kangaroo poops on the ground as well. Hehe.

NOVATEK CAMERA

The Koala Bear enclosure! You can't really hug the Koalas and take photo anymore but you can go up close to them, pet them gently with the back of your hand and take a photo beside me really close. But most of the time they'll be sleeping on the branches.

NOVATEK CAMERA

We came across the farm where they have donkeys, ponies, horses, sheep, goat and other farm animals where you can pet them and interact with them as well. Look at how beautiful the horse is (above)! Really love this shot.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Not sure what breed this goat is, but it looked really bored and sad.

NOVATEK CAMERA

And.. oops, took a candid shot of this horse. It seems like he wanted to say something, which I probably won't figure out ever.

041

The owls resting peacefully. They look really beautiful as well.

NOVATEK CAMERA

After the morning at Caversham Wildlife Park, we went to Fremantle. We parked in front of St John's Anglican Church and went to the shops along the road to shop for a little while. Bought a jacket from Cotton On as the weather was too cold for me. Did not expect it to be so cold and all that I have packed for the trip was beach wear and a cardigan.

NOVATEK CAMERA

Next we parked at High Street and walked to E-Shed. It's about 10 minutes walk from High St. We have to walk pass these train tracks to get to E-Shed Markets. It's a waterside market and its opening hours is 9 am to 5 pm, Friday to Sunday. So remember to visit the place if you're around Perth from Friday to Sunday! Check its website for more details!

045

There's a food court when you enter E-Shed Markets and I had Teriyaki Chicken Rice for lunch from one of the Japanese store. I think it is not bad, not too salty for me. Really liked it. So after that we walked around and bought some souvenirs. They sell lots of keychains, t-shirts etc. at a lower cost than what we saw at the tourist attractions area.

NOVATEK CAMERA

So, while walking back to our car after visiting E-Shed Markets, we went up to Arthur Head Reserve to look for the washroom. We caught sight of a viewing area on our way down and out of curiosity, we went to check it out. And I'm really glad that we did because the view was simply breathtaking! It's really relaxing looking at the sea waves and enjoying the breeze. I really fell in love with Perth's beaches. Every beach I went to takes my breathe away.

Next, my parents head home while me and my friend attend the church service at Riverview Church. It was a lovely church and I met some new friends there. They told me that I have to try out the Peking Duck at Good Fortune Duck House because its really good.

46

After the service, I contacted my parents and was told that my dad had lost his way and is still stuck some where in the city! I was really worried and told him to wait some where and let me know the name of the road so that we could meet them there. Thanks to Google Map on my phone, I managed to find my way there (walked and took a bus) and met up with them. Thank God! Really gave me a scare.

I suggested Good Fortune Duck House to them for dinner and they agreed. We managed to locate the nearest chain store which is 10 minutes away from where we are. I must say that I'd still prefer Singapore's Peking Duck as it's not as salty as it is in Perth, but overall the food are acceptable and not bad.

48

Had this interesting looking peace ice cream. It's white chocolate on the outside that form the shape of the peach, and ice cream inside. Yummy!

47

After dinner, we went back to our rented apartment and sat at the courtyard for a while to admire the moon, which was shining so brightly that night. It's always a good way to relax by sitting outdoor and admire/enjoy the nature.
